Both single and dual transmitters can take as many headphones as desired, as long as it is one screen being watched.

If two different movies are being watched on 2 players side by side, then you need dual channel transmitters and headphones. (Channel A for first movie and channel B for the second movie). You can then add further dual channel headphones for additional children (ie one sat in the middle) and they can switch the headphones from channel A to B depending on who's film they want to watch.
